Catalyzing Climate Technology as Ctcn Hits 10-Year Anniversary

It's been a decade since a group of nations agreed to work together to combat climate change, and on Tuesday, the Climate Technology Center and Network (CTCN) celebrated its 10th anniversary with a report detailing more than 300 projects it's helped fund in 112 developing countries, the Guardian reports.

"The growing demand for strategic technology investments underscores its potential for even greater influence and positive impact on the climate crisis," UNEP Executive Director Inger Andersen said in a statement, noting the CTCN "is undoubtedly a vital component within the UNEP framework and is a great example of how a small-scale initiative can yield outsized impacts."

Among the projects the CTCN has helped fund, per its website: green building standards in Zimbabwe, drought risk modeling in Saint Kitts and Nevis, industrial energy efficiency in Pakistan, designing a policy on e-mobility in the Solomon Islands, and flood management in Burundi.

In its report, the CTCN notes the "urgent call for action resonates strongly with the founding principles of the [UNFCCC] CTCN, which emerged from the Conference of Parties' vision to leverage technology in the fight against climate change."
