"Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much."

That's Helen Keller's famous line, and it's a line that's ringing true in Lenawee County, Mich., where the Lenawee Community Foundation recently handed out more than $100,000 in grants to local youth programs.

The foundation, which received a $1 million grant from the Kellogg Foundation 26 years ago, says it's hard work to ensure that donated funds are used in the best way possible, and thanks to the hard work of volunteers, this year's recipients included Adrian Center for the Arts, Adrian District Library, Adrian Symphony Orchestra, Associated Charities of Lenawee County, Catholic Charities of Jackson, Lenawee andHillsdale Counties, Clinton Township Library, Holy Family Catholic Youth, Hospice of Lenawee, Lenawee Imagination Library, and Tecumseh High School Drama Club, MLive.com reports.

The teen-led grant-making process is "rigorous and youth-led," foundation VP Paula Trentman says in a statement.

"They ask for youth involvement in the programs they fund, request information on how youth assets will be built, and make recommendations to the Lenawee Community Foundation board of directors for the programs that will help local youth the most."
